![]() ![]() It’s doable that all I can say, the scene I was working on has around 14 layers… but I’m sure I can merge some of these layers together to reduce to the number of layers, might end up at like 10 or 9 can’t really tell atm…īut overall it’s possible just not very fun when you have so much details to go through… Going for both directions is just going to be crazy difficult to test and edit, I don’t want to make it impossible for my self…Īnyway I made each layer as a separate tiled object and I used the change offset event and that way when I press left or right to move the image offset change based on the player position and I make the far layer move slower than the closest one and so on… I might also make it only horizontally not vertically, It’s already complicated enough horizontally. Thing is… it’s really hard and very time consuming. Thank you as always and I’ll be reading your ideas and everything well after trying for almost 10 hours today I can say that it is possible… I hope there is a simpler way to it though, maybe I’m complicating things, hope you can help me with this. Now for my next game if I feel like that parallax background is going to be super hard to do and very complicated, I might unfortunately drop it off from the whole game as I want to focus more on the gameplay and so on… working alone is already hard you know, but I might have other things to do to give depth to the scenes a bit more I’m not sure yet if parallax background is going to be something, but honestly when you have detailed environments it’s just going to be crazy hard to make it a parallax background, I’m not really sure, I know that parallax backgrounds give a great feeling in games but like I don’t really know, imagine working with maybe 6-8 layers in each scene and you have like 50 - 150 scenes, it’s just going to be impossible… I mean in the photo up there, they draw just the things that appear to the camera and nothing else, how is that even possible? how did they test that? did they like test the game then see this picture falling out of bounds then adjusting it and test again and so on or what exactly, if that’s the case then wow that will take 5 years alone to do ? I have no idea if this the right way to do it honestly but I’m just thinking here like, how though? this crazy amount of details to work with…ġ- How to handle complex parallax backgrounds in GD in general, what is your ideas for this? I want you to get creative as possible, like imagine you need to create a scene with 6 or 7 separate backgrounds, what are the steps you’re going to take to achieve that?Ģ- You drew a great looking very detailed scene, how do you make this scene a parallax background in the first place, like what layers goes with what? how do you merge this scene to get exactly the right amount of layers you need in the scene? like when there are so many many layers to work with, how to handle this to create a parallax background out of it? this is going to be crazy hard and very time consuming to do…ģ- How to test a complex parallax background inside GD ? or like easiest way to test it out, this is probably the most important question, how to know you’re drawing the right perspective and not making the pictures go out of bounds when the player jumps for example? Now I take these layers (I have no idea how when you have like 2 million layers to work with) and open up a 3D program (I have no idea what program, if you know an easy one let me know about it) then I set up the layers then I add the character in and center the camera and on him and move him a bit up and down and left and right to see if the parallax background is working correctly inside that 3D program. I create my art as normal, everything is on separate layers (This alone is very very complicated) I have an idea but I don’t know if it will work or if it’s even worth it but how about this: When you’re drawing your scene you don’t exactly know what the player will see when he jumps, like which layer will be moving and so on in engine because you’re drawing in PS It’s going to crazy hard to test this out in engine!Īlso testing a parallax background is kind of annoying like for example: The issue with GD at the moment is that it doesn’t have a 3D space to work in and see the layers separated like in the photo. ![]() Like I can do the art no issues with that, the issue I’m having is how to make a parallax background out of the scene that I drew ? How to achieve similar or even just close effect like this in GDevelop? ![]() Now as you can see the crazy amount of layers in this single scene… ![]()

![]() ![]() Just make sure you have the right tools for the job if you’ll be hanging your floating shelving on a brick, cement, or tiled wall. This is, hands down, the most secure attachment for your shelving, but it’s (obviously) not always possible. ![]() ![]() Oh boy, there’s nothing quite like a sleek shelf hanging effortlessly on a white brick wall. You should never ever ever hang a floating bookshelf that doesn’t connect to at least two studs. These allow you to anchor into the bones of your home for maximum strength and resistance to everyone’s nemesis: gravity. Studs are those vertical boards inside your wall that are made of soft wood like pine or spruce. So, you know, anchors away… at your own risk. Drywall anchors are rated for certain poundage per anchor, but the constant weight on these anchors can open the drywall up and cause sagging and tipping in your shelves. Would you trust that to hold up your books? Didn’t think so.īut, Shelfology, what about drywall anchors?! Drywall, also known as sheetrock, is just a bunch of hardened plaster between two sheets of thick paper. However-and listen closely-it is not to be trusted for hanging a shelf. This can be painted, wallpapered, or paneled over. Drywallĭrywall creates a smooth, even surface for finishing a room. Factor #1: The Wall Is your shelf worthy of holding up your library of books? Let’s take a look at the five factors that will help you determine whether or not you should trust your trusty floating shelves to begin with. While the big box stores may put out some cute (and cheap!) floating shelves, unless you are talking about a couple of Curious George books, those cute, cheap shelves don’t exactly inspire confidence-especially if installed overhead! As a result he has gotten sick, and he fears that he does not have much time left to live. But he has accepted this fate, considering it an insignificant price to pay for helping to save Lux. Zoë asks Abnaxus why he spoke so cryptically to her in her dreams. Abnaxus explains that reaching out to her telepathically was hard to accomplish, so his message became muddled in the process. She then asks him why he contacted her to recover the Soul Stone, and Abnaxus answers that only a Dreamer, like Lux, could have faced the Sisters. He tells her a few things about April, Kian, and Crow. April and the White Dragon are supposed to be "alive, reborn, but split in two." Abnaxus says that Crow is important and magical, specifically saying that he will accompany the "bloodless king" before joining the "Dragon of Spring" at the end of his life. Zoë also inquires about the nature of the Oular. Abnaxus explains that they had a grand civilization of their own, when they lived alongside another race called "the Yehte". But ages ago, the two species began to split up, which led to their great cities crumbling. The two races are now both protector of dreams but in different ways. The Yehte became "the grubbers beneath" and unwittingly came to serve "the Un-dream", as they were enslaved by it, while the Oular took to live in the clouds where they serve as Lux's guardians. Zoë notices that she is familiar with "the Grubbers", and asks Abnaxus why they would serve something that seeks to unmake all of existence. Abnaxus answers apologetically that he would love to explain more, but time is running short and Lux awaits. He then leads Zoë and Crow to a temple.Īs they walk inside the temple, Abnaxus explains that the Oular were always meant to be the protectors of the Dream, as they were the children of the first dream, and therefore came into being long before humans, the Venar, and even the world as it is known to Zoë came into being. They kept Lux safe after the Soul Stone was stolen, and have since been struggling to keep the Un-dream at bay. ![]() Zoë asks how the Soul Stone was lost in the first place. ![]() Abnaxus tells her that "the wizard" with "the black fire inside him" took the Soul Stone, as he desired to own dreams and reshape everything. Abnaxus explains that "the wizard" once struck a bargain with the "black fire" and allowed it to enter him. In doing so, "the wizard" became the Undreaming and he is still a danger to everything. Zoë and Abnaxus finally reach the sleeping Lux, who is watched over by an older-looking Oular with a cape and a feather dress on his head. She asks Abnaxus what to do, and he ensures her that she will know what to do. Zoë presents the Soul Stone to Lux, and is drawn into Lux's mind. Lux communicates with her telepathically, telling her more about her role as the physical continuation of Lux. At the end of their "conversation", Zoë declares to Lux that she understands what she must do. In response, Lux holds out a hand, and Zoë reaches out to touch it. With a last smile, Lux merges with her and disappears. Zoë stands alone for a moment before Crow's voice, asking her if she is okay, calls her back to the temple. Now back in the temple, Crow tells Zoë that for a moment it appeared like she was made of light, commenting that it was incredibly beautiful. A bit dizzy, Zoë explains to Crow that she knows what she must do now she must go back and wake up for real as there are things that must fixed. Crow asks her if he can join her, but Zoë sadly answers that he cannot. She bids Crow goodbye, explaining that she is likely not coming back ever again, but she assures him that she is convinced that everything will work out fine for him in the end. ![]() ![]() ![]() Webb’s Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam) images objects in the near-infrared range from 0.6 to 5 microns, so Neptune does not appear blue to Webb. At that extreme distance, the Sun is so small and faint that high noon on Neptune is similar to a dim twilight on Earth. Located 30 times farther from the Sun than Earth, Neptune orbits in the remote, dark region of the outer solar system. Neptune has fascinated researchers since its discovery in 1846. Webb’s extremely stable and precise image quality permits these very faint rings to be detected so close to Neptune. “It has been three decades since we last saw those faint, dusty bands, and this is the first time we’ve seen them in the infrared,” notes Heidi Hammel, a Neptune system expert and interdisciplinary scientist for Webb. In addition to several bright, narrow rings, the Webb image clearly shows Neptune’s fainter dust bands. Most striking in Webb’s new image is the crisp view of the planet’s rings – some of which have not been detected since NASA’s Voyager 2 became the first spacecraft to observe Neptune during its flyby in 1989. Not only has Webb captured the clearest view of this distant planet’s rings in more than 30 years, but its cameras reveal the ice giant in a whole new light. A small feature, but hugely beneficial to I highly recommend using Scrivener for writing a dissertation. If software always opens up to the beginning of the document, I get distracted by reviewing and editing earlier writing, rather than continuing where I left off. My other favourite feature is how it opens up to where you were last writing. For me, this “chunking” made it so much easier to develop an argument, and writing became more enjoyable. I can break large, complex things down into smaller thoughts, see the order of those thoughts in the side bar, and easily move them around. This feature alone made writing my dissertation and articles for publication so much easier. This, for me, is one of the key selling points of Scrivener. Scrivener offers a really nice way to chunk the text as you want. I’m specifically thinking of text but it could include anything else. To me the huge benefit of Scrivener is chunking. But it’s likely true that setting up compile the first time (at least for certain formats) might be a PITA. Maybe it took me awhile the first time, but now several years later all I have to do is press a keyboard combo to export all my relevant documents in one go. I think I just figured out the best way to export (for me it was multimarkdown). I don’t remember the compile feature vividly. I don’t need that feature built-in, but if it’s very useful for you then once again it’s a big reason to stay with Scrivener. But based on what you’ve written you are not in the same situation.Īnother huge benefit of Scrivener is the ability to collate research documents (research broadly speaking as a collection of PDF documents). That’s a huge time saver for me, and a huge reduction of writing friction. The beauty of markdown for me is I can do 2 things at the same time: one markdown file to create both web-ready content and PDF-ready content at the same time. So I have a certain freedom relative to other academics in terms of format of text based work. I don’t really need to worry/use MS Word. Unless you have a very good reason to move to markdown only … it seems like Scrivener is your perfect app.Īll my written work is either for the web (course websites, other kinds of websites) or as PDFs. It may not be a good fit for you, but useful to try the shoes on. Plus the Mac version can be downloaded with a 14 day trial. When I do use on iOS it’s primarily to review writing not to create more content (I pretty much hate typing on either device). At that point the price isn’t worth it for me. If I had to pay the normal price for it (instead of my university paying for it) then I’d probably switch to Numbers. On the other hand, Excel isn’t something I enjoy (I don’t hate it either) but I do use often. If it’s something I use a lot and enjoy then those are my key priorities. I’m a professional and wanted tools with little-to-no friction and that were a joy to use. I don’t think the price ever diverted me. If markdown is NOT a key feature for you then Scrivener should probably always be choice 1. The developer made “nods” toward markdown but there’s no native markdown previewing. The iOS is pretty “lame” and not worth discussing. … where I found it less than great was: (1) handling of markdown and (2) the iOS app. I think in the end it all depends on how you write and what your projects are like. ![]() ![]() ![]() The Silver Maine Coon is an intelligent and active breed which benefits from regular exercise and mental stimulation.
